Race Awards Administrator
After a few failed attempts to run round the block, my first official run was at Darlington Park Run in April 2014 with the aim of losing some weight and getting fitter. I found running enjoyable and quite addictive. I trained mainly on my own for over a year and had reached a level which I was finding difficult to improve.
My wife and I joined the Harriers in July 2015 following a few taster sessions at the track. We both really enjoyed the structured training sessions which allow people of all levels to train together, develop and ultimately improve. PB's are almost guaranteed at the Harriers with a bit of hard work and dedication. I have achieved times which I could only have dreamed of prior to joining the club. People involved with the club are helpful, supportive and welcoming - we have made some great friends. For anyone thinking of joining a running club - I can't recommend Darlington Harriers highly enough.
Landing my dream job of Race Awards Administrator at the Harriers was a bit of a fluke really and proof of "It's not what you know it's who you know!" - I let slip in a conversation that I might have some Excel skills and the book was duly passed my way. Core duties include: Collating race times, updating spreadsheets and taking stick from fellow members for making the odd school boy error.
